Culture and History
The vaults of the nave and side chapel of Saint-Martin Parish Church are decorated with contemporary paintings depicting the legend of Guifred II of Cerdanya. The bell tower of Casteil Parish Church features columns and capitals originating from Saint-Martin du Canigou Abbey.
Casteil’s chestnut festival takes place on the second Sunday in October. It is considered a major annual highlight and attracts many people.

The Cami Vell del Coll de Jou à Mariailles is a challenging hiking trail starting in Casteil. The Cami Vell trail is marked with the white-and-red GR markings and the yellow PR markings.
The climbing area in the Cady Gorges features granite multi-pitch climbing routes as well as single-pitch routes. From the car park, the area can be reached on foot in around five minutes via the trail to the Cady Waterfall.
The Mariailles Refuge provides accommodation for 53 hikers in dormitories with blankets. It is the starting point for some of the most beautiful hikes to Canigou. Montagne Vibration offers summit ascents and mountain crossings.
