Banyuls-Sur-Mer: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes
Banyuls-sur-Mer is the starting or finishing point of the GR 10, a long-distance hiking trail that crosses the Pyrenees and connects the Mediterranean with the Atlantic. In Banyuls-sur-Mer, marked hiking trails also lead through terraced vineyards, hidden coves and the mountain landscapes of the Albères. Landscape
The Banyuls wine-growing region is characterised by terraces supported by more than 6,000 kilometres of dry-stone walls that descend towards the Mediterranean. Above Banyuls-sur-Mer lies the three-hectare Jardin Méditerranéen, with more than 300 plant species from regions with a Mediterranean climate.
Peyreffite is a pebble beach in Banyuls-sur-Mer that the municipality shares with Cerbère; it lies between steep slate hills. The underwater trail begins there at Peyrefite beach in a sheltered cove and is explored at the surface with a mask, snorkel and fins. The trail is 250 metres long and has five observation stations representing five different ecosystems.
Nature
The Aquarium de Banyuls is located by the sea, a few dozen metres from the Cerbère-Banyuls Marine Nature Reserve. Since 2017, it has been part of the Biodiversarium, which is connected to a botanical garden.
Culture
The Musée Maillol de Banyuls-sur-Mer is housed in the former métairie of the sculptor Aristide Maillol, where he liked to work and relax. The museum presents numerous works by Maillol, including bronzes, terracottas, paintings and lithographs, as well as the sculptor’s daily life in the métairie.
The Chapelle Notre-Dame de la Salette was built in 1863 by Bonaventure Reig after a pilgrimage to Notre Dame de la Salette in the Isère département. A small path provides access to the chapel on foot or by car; from there, visitors can enjoy a panoramic view over Banyuls, its wine-growing region and the entire Côte Vermeille. The parish church of Saint Jean Baptiste was built in 1969 to replace another relatively young church that had been destroyed in the 1950s.
The “Dans les pas d’Aristide” walking tour leads through the typical lanes of Cap d’Osna, a former fishing district where Aristide Maillol lived.
Wine
The winemakers’ aperitifs in Banyuls-sur-Mer include a cellar visit led by the producer and a tasting. They take place from 13 April to 26 October at 6 p.m.; registration is required by the day before at the latest.

Getting Around
The Aquarium de Banyuls can be reached from Banyuls-sur-Mer railway station in around 15 minutes on foot. The station is served daily by TER services connecting it with the nearest towns; bus route 540 also runs between Perpignan and Cerbère.
