The Étang de Vic is part of the Natura 2000 site of the Étangs palavasiens and is a wetland of international importance under the Ramsar Convention. Its diverse birdlife includes flamingos, migratory waders and breeding terns.

Those choosing Vic-la-Gardiole as a holiday destination can combine their stay with the desire to rent a holiday apartment.

Nature

The Bois des Aresquiers lies between the lagoons of Vic and Ingril. Mediterranean pine forest borders salt ponds directly there; the area is protected by the Conservatoire du littoral.

The Aresquiers trail passes flamingos and then enters a pine forest. It is considered suitable for families and is accessible by bicycle. It also runs along one of the largest protected coastal areas. From the Pont des Aresquiers, the Étang de Vic can be explored via the Lido or along the footpath beside the Canal du Rhône à Sète.

Culture

The Sainte-Léocadie Church was built in 1173 with royal permission to fortify churches and was classified as a Monument historique in 1920.

Les Médiévales de Vic takes place every year at the end of summer. The festival features historically styled stalls and taverns, costumed artisans, armed troops, knightly battles, traditional medieval dances and storytelling.

Activities

The horseback rides follow the Étang d’Ingril and continue to the salt pans of Frontignan. The Promenade à Cheval des Aresquiers offers horseback or pony rides for beginners and experienced riders.

Marked trails lead from the village into the Massif de la Gardiole; the hikes have varying levels of difficulty.

Wine

The Domaine de la Plaine is a 20-hectare winery at the foot of the Massif de la Gardiole and produces Muscat de Frontignan. The AOP Muscat de Mireval also belongs to the Vic-la-Gardiole area. Several wineries in Vic-la-Gardiole welcome visitors for tastings of sweet natural Muscat wines.
