Saint-Jean-de-Buèges is located in the buffer zone of the “Causses et Cévennes” area, which has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 25 June 2011. In the Montagne de la Séranne, the municipality features a speleological landscape with very large underground chambers and almost seven kilometres of underground passages. This includes the Grotte du Garel, which was discovered by the speleological section in 1974.

Culture and history
The Église de la Nativité-de-Saint-Jean-Baptiste has its main construction phases in the late 11th and early 12th centuries, as well as further construction phases in the 17th and 18th centuries. It belongs to a group of churches and chapels in the valleys of the Buège and the Hérault on the Causse de la Selle, which are characteristic of the preservation of forms of early Romanesque architecture.
Cultural events such as theatre, exhibitions and performances take place at the Château de Baulx.
Climbing and hiking
The Rocher du Trascastel climbing site has 89 routes ranging from 25 to 80 metres in height. There are easy routes for beginners and amateurs, as well as more challenging routes for experienced climbers.
The GR® Pays “Tours dans le Grand Pic Saint-Loup” is accessible year-round and consists of four signposted circular routes that explore notable sites, villages and landscapes in the area.
On the Tour de la Séranne aux Gorges de l’Hérault, the route leads from the church square via Rue de la Séranne and a winding path to the 782-metre-high summit of Peyre-Martine, which offers a viewpoint over the valley. The Peyre Martine hiking route starts at the car park in Saint-Jean-de-Buèges, is 17 kilometres long, takes six hours and is classified as difficult.
The first stage of the Tour des Londres à la Buèges runs for 14 kilometres from Saint-Jean-de-Buèges to Saint-Martin de Londres. The Tour des Londres à la Buèges circular route is 55 kilometres long, takes three days and begins in Saint-Jean-de-Buèges.
The second stage of the Tour de la Séranne aux Gorges de l’Hérault runs for 20 kilometres from Saint-Jean-de-Buèges to Saint-Guilhem-le-Désert.

Public transport connections to Saint-Jean-de-Buèges are considered difficult, as the municipality is served from Ganges only on Fridays.
