History and Culture

The Saint-Clément Aqueduct was designed by the engineer Henri Pitot in the second half of the 18th century and built by Jacques Nogaret. It crosses the municipal area and is a visible example of 18th-century hydraulic engineering. The Saint-Clément Aqueduct is listed as a historic monument; the protection registrations are dated 19 August 1994 and 22 July 2022.

The existence of Saint-Clément has been documented since 1109, when the Bishop of Maguelone transferred his rights to the Church of Saint-Clément-de-Fontaine to the Abbot of Aniane. Fontbouysse pottery was found in the Grotte de Saint-Clément-de-Rivière, associated with the settlement of a sedentary prehistoric population. Fragments from the Grotte de Saint-Clément-de-Rivière are displayed in a showcase in front of the council chamber in the town hall.

Wine

Domaine de Saint-Clément cultivates 9 hectares of vineyards and manages its entire vineyard biodynamically. Wine tastings of wines vinified on site are offered in the historic cellar of Domaine de Saint-Clément.
