Saint-Brès lies on the edge of the Garrigue. The Bérange separates the built-up areas of Baillargues and Saint-Brès; at the entrance to the village, the Vieux Pont connects the two places.

History and Culture

From the Vieux Pont, a noria can be seen on the road towards Baillargues. In the 17th century, the Bérange was navigable and was used to transport goods, particularly wine, to the port of Candillargues. The original medieval church of Saint-Brès was destroyed during the Wars of Religion, known as the Rohan Wars, and rebuilt from 1635 onwards.

Local traditions are also closely linked to the festivities. Abrivados are held at festivals in Saint-Brès today and are part of the town's folklore. The Course camarguaise is a bloodless sporting tradition in Saint-Brès in which men dressed in white remove the attributes – the rosette, tassels and strings – from a bull's horns.

Events

On 13 November, Saint-Brès celebrates the festival in honour of Saint Brice with a large village fête. “Un Printemps sous les arbres” is one of the major events in Saint-Brès. The evening event on 13 July is also one of the major events in Saint-Brès.

Nature and Trails

The Nature et Loisirs hiking club offers guided daytime hikes with one or two companions who have previously explored the routes. The varied trails provide access to beautiful nature reserves and attractions.

The cycling route between Saint-Geniès-des-Mourgues and Saint-Brès is 3.3 km long, involves 31 m of ascent and is listed as taking 14 minutes.

Saint-Brès is served by TAM bus route 29, which runs between Castelnau-le-Lez, Notre Dame de Sablassou stop, and Saint-Brès.
