Geographical setting
Pézènes-les-Mines lies in a wooded valley at an altitude of around 200 metres. The village is located near the Cirque de Mourèze and 12 kilometres from Lac du Salagou.
Nature
Layered limestone from the Devonian period occurs in Pézènes-les-Mines. West of Les Montades there are basaltic organ-pipe or column formations. The local paths include little-known trails through holm-oak forests and fields of broom, thyme and wild mint. The rarer species found in Pézènes-les-Mines include the wild peony and Salzmann's pine.
Culture
In the heart of Pézènes-les-Mines, the Théâtre de verdure is used throughout the summer for evenings organised by the festival committee and for cultural events. These include open-air performances, dancing and singing.
Production and events
On the Pézènes-les-Mines plateau in Taussac is AgroSymbiose, a 1,500 m² aquaponic greenhouse facility. AgroSymbiose uses aquaponics, combining plant cultivation with fish farming in a closed-loop system. Vegetables, baby vegetables, aromatic plants, edible flowers and microgreens are produced there all year round; rainbow trout are farmed from October to June.
The Domaine de Pouzes organises free Agri-Balades. Visitors can see and smell various varieties of rosemary, thyme, lavender, oregano, tarragon and hyssop, most of them wild and local. The tour then continues to the barn, where the herbs are naturally dried, stripped of their leaves and sieved.
A visit to the Domaine de Pouzes has been announced for 9 September 2026. It is planned to include a short tour through five hectares of fields with seasonally changing scents, a simple fragrance workshop and a visit to the drying barn, where the art of proper drying will be explained. The event announced at the Domaine de Pouzes for that day was also scheduled to include tastings of iced-tea infusions and fresh local cheeses with herbs from Pouzes.
