The Cirque de Mourèze is accessible exclusively on foot. The Sentier des Courtinals has a viewpoint offering a sweeping panorama of the Cirque de Mourèze and the picturesque village of Mourèze. A route in the Parc des Courtinals takes about one hour, is 2.5 kilometers long, and has an easy to moderate level of difficulty.
Culture and History
The Church of Sainte Marie is first mentioned in the year 990. The present-day church is Gothic in style and was rebuilt several times in the 13th, 14th, and 15th centuries. Its portal and bell tower are Romanesque in style.
The castrum of Mourèze is also mentioned in the year 990. Later remains of the walls of the Château de Mourèze are still visible and recall the former fortress. Archaeological finds in the Courtinals enclosure near the village of Mourèze attest to human presence there since the Neolithic period.
