Minerve: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

The 96-km-long GR77 long-distance hiking trail passes through the Minerve area.

Anyone planning to hike the GR77 and visit Minerve’s cultural sites may consider renting a holiday apartment.

Getting around

The Grande Traversée de l'Hérault passes through the Minerve area, is more than 700 km long and is suitable for hikers, mountain bikers and horseback riders. The “Minerve, la Cesse et le Brian” circular trail is approximately 9 km long and takes around 3 hours and 30 minutes. The “Circuits du Minervois au Caroux” app offers numerous walking, cycling and mountain biking routes, as well as audio guides.

Minerve’s main car park, the Aire du Bouys, is located above the village, about 250 m away on foot, and offers 116 parking spaces.

Nature

The Cité de Minerve, Gorges de la Cesse et du Brian was awarded the Grand Site de France label by ministerial decision dated 19 December 2025.

Mont Ségonne mountain is located in the vicinity of Minerve. The Serre d'Alaric summit is also nearby.

The wider regional surroundings of Minerve include La Grage mountain and the Signal de Saint-Pons summit.

Culture and History

The Musée archéologique de Minerve has held Musée de France status under the French Heritage Code since 17 September 2003. It displays flint tools from the Palaeolithic period, Neolithic pottery, jewellery from regional dolmens and everyday objects dating from the time of the Gauls to the Visigoths. The museum also presents trilobites found in the Brian, which are considered the oldest fossils in France.

In June 1210, 140 Cathars in Minerve who refused to recant were sentenced to the stake; this was the first collective burning at the stake of the Crusade. Remains are still visible at Les Lacs on the Route de Boisset, about 3 km from the village of Minerve.

The wider regional surroundings of Minerve include the historic site of Abbaye Notre Dame. They are also home to the ruins of Grange de Fontcalvy, the historic site of Monastere Notre-Dame de Gaussan and the Cathédrale Saint-Just-et-Saint-Pasteur church.
