Maraussan: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

In Maraussan, the history of the Notre-Dame de la Providence chapel dates back to 1685; it was inaugurated in 1688. It was extensively renovated in 1988 and restored in 2014; for many hikers, it is a stage along the route.

Culture

Between the 9th and 11th centuries, a feudal castle surrounded by fortifications stood on the site of the Saint Symphorien church. The church developed from the former castle chapel through successive extensions.

The Château de Perdiguier is a 14th-century feudal castle in Maraussan. A guided tour with commentary includes two rooms and the main courtyard. The old village of Maraussan can be explored via cobbled lanes and along a washhouse.

Nature and Trails

The former railway line through Maraussan is now part of the Voie Verte. An oenological hiking trail allows visitors to discover the Mediterranean flora and vineyards of Maraussan.

A small wooded park near the church in Maraussan offers unobstructed views of Béziers and the Orb plain. The garden behind the choir of Saint Symphorien church, laid out on the former cemetery, also overlooks the Orb plain. Maraussan was built on one of the terraces formed during the glaciations of the Quaternary period.

Wine

The wine-making cellar of the Vignerons Libres was established in Maraussan in 1905. The Vignerons Libres cooperative winery in Maraussan was founded in 1901 as France’s first winegrowers’ cooperative.

At the Château de Perdiguier, the estate’s red, white and rosé wines as well as Perdiguier honey can be tasted and purchased. The “La ronde des caves” route begins at Maraussan’s historic cooperative winery, in front of the Vignerons Libres gable.
