Culture and History
The castellated Saint-Jean Chapel is a building in the early Romanesque style dating from the 11th century; it was listed as a Historic Monument on 22 January 1979. In 1155, the chapel was donated to the Diocese of Maguelone and extended to the castle courtyard in the 14th century.
The Valmalle silk mill was built in 1838 by the Valmalle brothers. The castle keep of Laroque dates from the period between the 9th and 13th centuries.
The medieval Romanesque castrum of Laroque has been fully preserved to this day and is surrounded by a high defensive wall. The lower fortification walls of Laroque were built in the 14th century to protect the village from robbers. Rue du Château provides access to the feudal castrum of Laroque.
The Église Sainte Madeleine was built outside the city walls of Laroque at the end of the 12th century. It was raised in 1898 following floods.

Nature and Activities
The Massif du Thaurac rises in the upper Hérault valley to just under 500 metres above the river and is characterised by garrigue vegetation and rocky cliffs. The Massif du Thaurac has at least 610 climbing routes ranging from 10 to 120 metres in length.
At the Base Nautique de Laroque, canoes and kayaks are available for hire with or without supervision.
