The Geosite du Chemin de Croix de Gignac consists of fourteen chapels forming a Stations of the Cross route that begins at the Notre-Dame-de-Grâce church. The geosite is located on a former riverbed from the Miocene, 23 million years old, and offers a prime viewpoint over the geological area of the Plaine de l’Hérault in the Géoparc Terres d’Hérault.
The Notre-Dame-de-Grâce church was built between 1624 and 1643 and was fully classified as a historic monument in 1989. Together with its oratories, it forms part of Gignac’s cultural heritage. The Saint-Pierre-aux-Liens parish church in Gignac has also been partially listed as a historic monument since 1963. The Pont sur l’Hérault is a three-arched bridge and was listed as a historic monument by decree of 29 December 1950.
In Gignac, the totem donkey Âne Martin is celebrated every year on Ascension Day. The Sénibelet is also held on this day, a historic battle between the inhabitants of Gignac and Saracen invaders.
Water and Leisure
On the shore of the 18-hectare body of water, the La Meuse municipal water sports and leisure centre offers canoeing, climbing, archery, swimming and fishing.
Trails and Mobility
The Oenorando du Canal des Vignes is accessible by public transport and is an easy circular trail through the vineyards of the Hérault Valley, along irrigation canals and streams. The Oenorando des Terroirs de Gignac et d’Aniane runs east of Gignac through gently rolling vineyards, skirts the Massif de l’Arboussas and offers views of the Larzac highlands and the Massif de Saint-Guilhem-le-Désert.
The Maison du tourisme et des mobilités in Gignac includes a bicycle workshop and a communal bicycle storage facility intended for a future bicycle rental service.
