Lido de Frontignan is a seven-kilometre-long strip of sand between the lagoons and the Mediterranean Sea. It stretches from the Quartier de l’Entrée to the wild beaches of Aresquiers via the marina and is used for recreation, walking and water sports activities.

Nature

The Massif de la Gardiole is a classified and protected area covering 5,000 ha, of which 600 ha are located within the territory of Frontignan la Peyrade. From there, views extend over the coast, the lagoons, the Bassin de Thau and the hinterland. The massif is home to Mediterranean flora and fauna, including birds of prey and ocellated lizards.

Culture

The Musée municipal is classified as a Musée de France and is located in the former Chapelle des pénitents blancs, dating from 1642. It also displays underwater archaeological objects from the exploration of several shipwrecks discovered off Aresquiers.

The Église Saint-Paul is a fortified building classified as a historic monument. Its first Romanesque version dates from the early 12th century.

Languedoc jousting competitions have been documented in Frontignan since 1627 at the Étang d’Ingril and remain part of the local tradition to this day, particularly during the town tournament on 14 July.

Traditions

Since 1987, the Festival du Muscat has taken place every summer in July in Frontignan la Peyrade. It includes cellar tours, culinary walks, tasting workshops, exhibitions and tasting stalls.

Nearby is the Abbaye Saint-Félix-de-Montceau, a ruin. Fort Saint-Louis, a fortress, is also located in the surrounding area.

The surrounding area includes Plage Des Aresquiers, a beach; Plage du Lazaret, a beach; Plage de la Corniche, a beach; and Plage des Quilles, a beach.

Other Places

In the wider regional area are Phare de la méditerranée, a viewpoint, and Sainte-Marie de Valmagne (Abbey), a historic site.
