Cabrières: Holiday Apartments and Houses

The Pic de Vissou is a 1,208-hectare area classified by decree on 26 March 2002. It rises 480 metres above Cabrières’ vineyards and offers a 360-degree panorama over the Hérault département and beyond. Those choosing Cabrières as a holiday destination may wish to rent a holiday apartment.

Nature

The Pic de Vissou features numerous fossils and Paleolithic remains and is of particular interest to those interested in nature, geology and prehistory. It is used for hiking and paragliding. The landscape also includes La source de l’Estabel, an intermittent mineral spring with a waterfall that flows only exceptionally rarely.

Hiking and Cycling

The Sentier des Mines is an easy, 7-kilometre circular hike that takes 2 hours and 30 minutes. The route passes through forests, vineyards and garrigue in the Cabrières terroir and conveys the history of the area from prehistory to the present day.

The Oenorando® des Crêtes de Vissou is a moderate, 12-kilometre circular hike that takes 4 hours. It leads from the village through vineyards and garrigue to the cliffs of the Pic de Vissou. The CABRIERES – COOPERATIVE bus stop is less than a 10-minute walk from the Oenorando® route and is served by the Clermont L’Hérault–Fontès lines.

For mountain biking, there is the “Cabrières et les ruines de Tiberet” circular route. It is 13 kilometres long, takes 2 hours and has a moderate difficulty level.

History and Culture

A hiking route to Château de Cabrières provides access to the visible remains of the cistern, the wall and the base of a tower. The route reaches a summit platform at an altitude of 293 metres, with views of the Pic de Vissou and the village of Cabrières.

The former fortress of Cabrières was finally demolished in 1585 on the orders of the Duke of Montmorency. In Les Crozes, the Église Saint-Martin has been classified as a historic monument by decree of 30 December 1980. The oldest document mentioning the Église Saint-Martin dates from 990.

Local Insights

The Galerie photo des schistes in the Cabrières wine cellar presents temporary themed exhibitions, which are renewed every three months.

The Caveau muséographique des Vignerons presents the medieval history of Cabrières, the geology of the Monts de Cabrières, archaeology and copper metallurgy. A visit can be followed by a tasting of the cuvées presented by the winemakers.
