Culture and History
The Chapelle Saint-Etienne has a nave and choir dating from the 12th century, a porch from the 13th century, and an elevation and bell tower from the 14th century. The chapel was one of fourteen churches affiliated with the Gourdaignes priory, founded in 815.
The Romanesque Sainte-Foy chapel was built on a promontory overlooking the Hérault Valley. Argelliers also has evidence of Roman presence at the Roman villa of Les Pradasses. The municipality includes the Romanesque St-Jean-de-Combejargues chapel near the Mas de Cournon. A Visigothic cemetery is also recorded at St-Jean-de-Combejargues, now associated with the Mas de Cournon.
Several Carolingian chapels or chapel remains are also located within the municipality, including those at the Roc de Pampelune.
Nature and Activities
The Saugras climbing area at the Roc de Pampelune comprises around thirty routes on limestone. The routes are 10 to 25 metres long and range from grades 3 to 7a. The climbing area can be reached on foot from the car park in less than five minutes.
The Trail d’Argelliers is an annual sporting event in the Vallée de l’Hérault, held in Argelliers in June.
Events
The ninth edition of the Court Cirqu’oui festival was scheduled to take place from 13 to 16 May 2026 at the Jardin de Tranquille in Argelliers. The festival was planned to feature circus, music, cabaret, and activities for children and adults.
Places in the Municipality
Le Jardin Tranquille is a shaded municipal park in Argelliers that is open year-round and allows picnicking. The garden is less than a ten-minute walk from the ARGELLIERS – CENTRE bus stop, which is served by the Montpellier–Montarnaud–Vailhauquès routes.
