Anyone wishing to rent a holiday apartment in Fontaine-les-Grès is considering a specific accommodation option for their trip.
Culture and History
The Église Sainte-Agnès was built in 1956 by architect Michel Marot. It follows a triangular floor plan and combines the traditional architecture of the barns of Aube with the modern design of the period in which it was built. Features include a broad, overhanging roof with flat tiles and a slate-covered tower roof. Inside are ceramic sculptures by André Dienis and painted panels made of corrugated industrial glass by Jean-Claude Vignes.
By decree of 31 May 2010, the Église Sainte-Agnès, including its forecourt, retaining walls and access ramps, was listed as a historic monument; the cadastral plots affected are AE 43 and AE 44.
The Église Saint-Nicolas dates from the 12th century and was extensively remodelled in the 16th century.
In 2024, two information boards for visitors were installed in cooperation with the municipality of Fontaine-les-Grès: one at the Église Sainte-Agnès and one at the Église Saint-Nicolas. The Église Sainte-Agnès can only be visited by prior appointment.
Industrial Heritage
The Doré-Doré site was substantially expanded between the end of the First World War and around 1930. This created large workshops, an engine room with a heating system and chimney, workers’ housing and a ballroom.
A tour of the town’s industrial heritage is available in Fontaine-les-Grès on request. It presents the architectural traces of the Doré-Doré company and its connections with the village. The tour also includes the former village school building, which now serves as the town hall.
Food and Drink
La Fontainate sells potatoes directly to customers in 10- and 25-kilogram sacks. The varieties offered are Excellency, which is suitable for French fries, Monalisa as a versatile variety, and Gourmandine, which has firm flesh.
