Dosnon: Holiday Apartments and Houses
In 1978, three menhirs were unearthed in Dosnon, including one weighing three tonnes. Subsequent archaeological excavations at the site uncovered flint scrapers, shell jewellery, animal teeth and Roman bronze coins from the 4th century.
History
The underground passage at Saint-Didier is carved into tuff and runs in two main directions that are almost perpendicular to each other. The Lhuîtrelle also once provided the power for a mill in Dosnon.
Culture
The Vierge de Pitié in Dosnon dates from the first quarter of the 16th century. It is located on the altar in the northern side aisle of Dosnon parish church and is classified as a protected object; it was placed under protection on 4 September 1956.
Dosnon church also contains a 16th-century stained-glass window depicting Saint Sebastian, the Virgin and Child, Saint Michael, the Elders of the Apocalypse and the Judgment of Solomon. The stained-glass window is classified as a protected object; it was placed under protection on 14 June 1897.
Townscape
Together with the bridges, Dosnon’s two surviving washhouses line a footpath through the village centre. The larger of the two washhouses was faithfully restored in 2018, with the exception of the movable oak platform. The surviving washhouses were used until the 1970s.
Landscape
The Lhuîtrelle flows through Dosnon before emptying into the Aube. The Route de la Craie showcases the built heritage constructed from chalk and the typical landscapes of the Aube Valley.
