Vaumort: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

The Église Saint-Jean-Baptiste de Vaumort stands on the edge of the Paris–Geneva Roman road, which ran via Sens and Alésia. Its oldest part is considered to be an 11th-century Romanesque church. From the entrance, the Cathedral of Saint-Étienne in Sens is directly visible.

Culture

The choir of the Église Saint-Jean-Baptiste de Vaumort contains sigillated floor tiles from the 13th and 18th centuries. In the hamlet of “Le Carmel” stands the menhir “La Pierre-Enlevée”, also known as “La Pierre-Aux-Sorcières”.

The more recent art in the village includes the “Sorcière” sculpture, carved from a walnut trunk in Vaumort in 2018. Laurent Germond made it using chainsaws. The “Vierge à l’Enfant” was classified as a protected movable object on 9 May 1905.

For 2026, it has been announced that the menhir-throwing competition “Lancer de Menhir” will return to Vaumort after previous editions.

Local Character

The Fromagerie du Vallimaurais produces fresh and matured goat’s cheese in Vaumort. Sales take place directly from the farm.

Hiking

The “Circuit du menhir” is an easy, 7.24 km hike starting from Vaumort, with 130 m of ascent and a stated duration of 2 hours and 25 minutes.
