History

Roads and country lanes between Sens and Orléans still follow the straight route of the Chemin de César over long stretches.

The Saint-Valérien church has been partially listed as a historic monument since 30 March 1926; the protection applies exclusively to its Renaissance portal. At the same time, the church combines Gothic styles from the 12th and 13th centuries with a 16th-century Renaissance style.

The Château de Saint-Valérien is a former fortified castle that was rebuilt at the beginning of the 18th century. The former defensive moats of the Château de Saint-Valérien now correspond to the Allée des Noisetiers, the Chemin des Cerisiers and the Chemin Vert. The Château de Saint-Valérien, together with its outbuildings and park, is considered a significant element of the municipality’s architectural heritage.

Culture

The Musées de Sens museum is located in the vicinity of Saint-Valérien. The historic sites Abbaye de Sainte-Colombe de Saint-Denis-lès-Sens, Cathédrale Saint-Étienne de Sens and Abbaye de Saint-Jean-lès-Sens are also located nearby.
