Pierre-Perthuis lies in the Cure Valley and is situated on rocky hills. The village is located within the Parc naturel régional du Morvan and is also within the classified area of Vézelay, which has been included on the UNESCO World Heritage List.

Culture and History
At Château de Pierre-Perthuis, significant visible remains of an important castle, documented since the 11th century, have been preserved on a rocky plateau overlooking the Cure. These include fortified posterns and defensive gates, parts of the walls of the first fortification, the motte of the keep, a wall walk and the manor house-parish residence flanked by two towers.
The Church of Saint Léonard is located in the former castle chapel. It is believed to date from the 12th century and was partly altered in the 16th and 19th centuries. The church includes a 12th-century apse, a vaulted nave from the 15th or 16th century and a bell tower. Inside are frescoes, sculptures, a stained-glass window and a capital.
The bridges also span different periods: the Grand Pont was built between 1872 and 1874. The Pont de Ternos, also known as Pont Vauban, was built around 1670.
Nature
Roche Percée is a natural rock arch measuring approximately 6 by 8 metres. It is located around 20 metres above the Cure and approximately 500 metres from the village centre.
Hiking Trails
“Le long de la Cure par le vieux pont de Pierre-Perthuis” is an easy PR hiking trail covering 9.2 kilometres and taking 3 hours and 15 minutes. The route is not marked, except for the red-and-white-marked GR 13 along the Cure.
The “Les ponts de Pierre-Perthuis” route of the Parc naturel régional du Morvan is a moderately difficult circular PR hiking trail covering 13.9 kilometres and taking 3 hours and 30 minutes. It passes through Saint-Père, Foissy-lès-Vézelay and Pierre-Perthuis.
Getting Around
Château de Pierre-Perthuis is open to the public. Parking for all types of vehicles is available at the château; it can be reached via a local road.
