Culture and History

The Église paroissiale de l’Assomption was built in 1830. It stands at the northern end of the hamlet of La Maine, next to the cemetery grounds and a small tree-planted square.

The grounds of the Château de Jully comprised several buildings, a chapel, a terrace, orchards and meadows. Only a partially derelict section of a building, constructed over a vaulted cellar, remains of the complex. The Château de Jully was intended for a convent for women under the authority of Molesmes Abbey.

At the Château de Jully, the Croix de chemin stands to the right of the former Château de Jully. It was erected and blessed in 1945. It depicts Christ on the cross; at his feet stand Saint Bernard and Saint Hombeline.

Nature and Forest

The Forêt domaniale de Jully comprises two forest areas located 4 km apart. They lie at the heart of a village spread across more than five hamlets: Jully-les-Forges, Jully-la-Loge, Jully-Frace, Jully-la-Folie and Jully-la-Maine.

On the edge of the Forêt domaniale de Jully, 23 hectares of land were reforested with a mixture of beech, Nordmann fir, Calabrian Laricio pine, wild service tree, service tree, hybrid walnut and wild cherry. The Canton du Chagnet borders a larger woodland area made up of public and private forests; a wolf was recently present there.

The historic site of Abbaye de Jully-les-Nonnains is located in the immediate vicinity of Jully. The surrounding area of Jully also includes the Château d’Ancy-le-Franc, the ruins of Abbaye du Puits d’Orbe and the historic site of Abbaye de la Charité-lès-Lézines.
