Culture and Local History
The Église Saint-Loup was listed as a historic monument by decree of 29 June 1912. Its surviving 13th-century components include the lower part of the bell tower and a rib-vaulted sacristy. The sanctuary also contains a carved wooden ensemble from the 18th century with a canopy above the altar.
Courlon-sur-Yonne received the “Village en poésie” designation on 15 September 2012 and was the first village in the Yonne département to receive this distinction. The painter and illustrator Henri Montassier is also associated with the village: he was born in Courlon-sur-Yonne on 27 June 1880 and later exhibited in London, Munich, Geneva, Brussels, the United States and Japan.
Walk Through the Village
The municipality announced a “Promenoir poétique”, a walk through the village with stations devoted to poetry. One named station along this route is the Lavoir, a washhouse in the village.
