The history of the Château de Chemilly family winery began in 1973. Château de Chemilly tends vines in five municipalities of the Chablisien region and in the Petit Chablis, Chablis and Chablis Premier Cru appellations.
Culture
On the edge of Chemilly-sur-Serein’s old town stands the Église Saint-Jean-Baptiste, dedicated to the Beheading of Saint John the Baptist. Its oldest sections date from the 12th century; at the beginning of the 16th century, the building was largely rebuilt in the Flamboyant Gothic style. Its features include a polychrome wooden high altar from the 17th century and a painted chest with banners from 1634, which is protected as a historic monument.
The historic sites of Petit-Pontigny and Prieuré de Villiers-la-Grange are located near Chemilly-sur-Serein. In the wider surrounding region are the historic site of Abbaye de Reigny, the historic site of Abbaye de la Charité-lès-Lézines, the Grottes d’Arcy caves and Mont Avrelot hill.
