Poil: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

Culture

The apse, choir and bell tower of the Church of Saint-Romain date back to the 12th century. The chapels of the Church of Saint-Romain, built in the 16th century, form a Latin-cross floor plan together with the rest of the building.

The Manoir de Concley in Conclay is an 18th-century château that was remodelled in the 19th century. It is not open to visitors.

Landscape

The Pierre du Bois Mousseau granite block is 5 m long, 3 m wide and 2.50 m high; its upper surface contains basins and cupules. The access path to the Pierre du Bois Mousseau runs through private woodland, and the granite block cannot be reached by car.

The Statue de la Vierge stands on a crenellated stone tower in a meadow on elevated ground. According to local tradition, the Statue de la Vierge was intended to protect against thunderstorms.

Local Life

Poil hosts the Fête de la Treuffe every August. The festival celebrates the potato, which was a staple food in the region for a long time, and includes a flea market, a competition for the largest potato, and various performances.

The Auberge de Poil adapts its cuisine to the seasons and the surrounding producers. It presents its terroir in the form of a single set menu.

History

The fortified house of Montantaume is characterised by a motte with the ruins of a tower. Numerous ancient objects were unearthed at the Quart du Bois archaeological site.
