In the village centre of Ouroux stands the Eglise Saint-Germain-d'Auxerre. It is dedicated to Saint Germanus, Bishop of Auxerre, and was built in the 19th century on the site of a medieval church of unclear original provenance that had been remodelled in the 15th century.
Culture and history
The history of Ouroux-en-Morvan includes the Maquis Bernard: it was founded in 1943 and, with around 30 maquisards, was one of the first resistance groups in the Morvan. The site can be reached from Ouroux via a signposted walking trail or by road.
A visit to the Maquis Bernard site includes a visit to the Franco-British cemetery as well as an account of life in the maquis. The site is located in Coeuzon in Ouroux-en-Morvan.
Pléchie, also called “pléchie” in Morvandiau, is a technique in which shrubs are woven together to form a hedge that is almost impenetrable to animals. The “Mois de la pléchie”, held every year in March, includes a day in Ouroux-en-Morvan during which this technique is introduced and passed on.
The Chapelle de Savault stands on an isolated hill overlooking the hamlet of Savault. Until 1895, it was a pilgrimage destination for the neighbouring parishes, whose inhabitants walked there in procession on the Tuesday after Easter.
The Musée de la Tonnellerie in Ouroux tells a long family history and is recognised by the Parc Naturel Régional du Morvan.
