Crux-La-Ville: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

Crux-la-Ville is heavily forested, and numerous ponds are scattered throughout the municipality. The Étang du Merle is considered a protected, unspoilt site with a 17-hectare body of water bordered by a beach. The Étang du Merle has a sandy beach, and swimming there is supervised in July and August.

Nature and trails

Hiking, horse-riding and mountain-biking trails make it possible to walk around the Étang du Merle and explore the forest. The “Sur le chemin des maquis” route in Crux-la-Ville is a moderately difficult hiking trail. Small roads and paths cross the municipality of Crux-la-Ville.

Culture and history

The church of Crux-la-Ville contains a tomb slab for Louis Alexandre de Damas, Count of Crux; it was classified as a historic object on 20 April 1913. A memorial created by Abbé Paul Renard, parish priest of St Franchy, was installed in the church in his honour at the beginning of the 1920s; the work was listed as a historic monument in 2018.

Between two ponds stands a vaulted bridge called “pont de Ligny”. Below Fonds Thomas is another bridge called “pont de fer”. Above it is an old mill that may date back at least to the 17th century. The washhouse was restored in 1980 thanks to the Camosine.
