Nature

The Marais d’Arcins-Soussans is a Natura 2000 site with wet meadows, ponds, wooded areas and reed beds. Two circular hiking trails run through the area. The surroundings can be observed more closely from a lookout tower in the Marais d’Arcins-Soussans.

From the town hall square, the Port de Soussans can be reached on foot, by bicycle or by car via signposted routes. The Port de Soussans offers a special panoramic view of the Gironde estuary; tables are also available there for picnics.

Since 2021, the Parc du Moulina has welcomed families and visitors; it offers opportunities for walks, relaxation and leisure activities. The Parc du Moulina has play equipment for children under eight, a skate park, a city stadium, a table tennis table and picnic tables.

Culture

The municipal washhouse in Soussans was built in the 19th century from hewn limestone. The year 1839 can still be seen on a ceiling beam. A fireplace in the washhouse was used to heat water.

Soussans is home to the parish church of Saint-Romain. Its construction campaign is dated to 1874, and it was designed by the architect Gustave Alaux. The church in Soussans also houses a polychrome wooden Pietà from the early 16th century. The church was built in the Gothic style and officially opened for worship on 28 October 1875.

Wine and Gastronomy

Most of the vineyards in Soussans belong to the Margaux appellation. Château Paveil de Luze has been run by the de Luze family for six generations and is considered one of the oldest wineries in the Margaux appellation. Visits to Château Paveil de Luze generally take place by appointment.

Château Paveil de Luze offers a tasting of three wines, including a Bordeaux Blanc appellation cuvée produced in an annual quantity of 3,000 bottles and paired with chocolate from the Margaux appellation.
