Nature
The Sentier des Fossiles is a 13-kilometre hiking trail in the nature reserve. The Promenade aux sources du Saucats is an 8.3-kilometre hiking trail in the nature reserve.
Culture
The Romanesque apse of Saucats Church, dedicated to Saint Peter, has a lower section dating from the 9th century. The upper section of the Romanesque apse of Saint-Pierre Church can be dated to the 12th century. Saint-Pierre Church has a Baroque altarpiece at the rear of its choir.
The Mémorial de la ferme de Richemont is an obelisk, each side of which is decorated with a sculpture. The support committee of the Mémorial de la ferme de Richemont holds a patriotic memorial ceremony every year on 14 July.
Activities
The “Que nous racontent les fossiles?” activity combines a museum visit with time spent in the forest at two important fossil sites. The “Anim’eau” activity takes place at a body of water, where participants use small nets to catch aquatic insect larvae, water bugs and small snails.
The “Atelier de la forêt” activity explores animal tracks, leaves, litter-dwelling insects, galls and snails during a walk in the nature reserve’s forest. “À la découverte des amphibiens des landes girondines” combines a presentation about the amphibians of Gironde with an excursion into the nature reserve’s wet heathlands.
A visit to the Mémorial de la ferme de Richemont takes around 45 minutes; volunteers from the committee recount the story of the Battle of Saucats.
