Saint-Macaire showcases its architectural history at the Église Saint-Sauveur-et-Saint-Martin: the original church building was replaced by a new one, which was consecrated in 1040. The church has a cloverleaf-shaped floor plan and a single-nave layout with four bays.

Getting Around
The “Cité médiévale et bords de Garonne” route is a two-hour walk through the medieval town of Saint-Macaire and along the banks of the Garonne. After the former port of Saint-Macaire, it follows the Garonne for 850 metres and passes a stand of poplar trees.
On the return journey, the “Boucle vélo n°08 Côteaux de Saint-Macaire” route follows the banks of the Garonne towards Saint-Macaire.
The “Boucle de la cité médiévale” route heads towards the former fortified Porte du Thuron. The Maison forte de Tardes can be seen along this route.
