Saint-Aignan: Apartments and Holiday Homes
Saint-Aignan is a small wine-growing village in the Fronsac appellation, situated on a hill above the meanders of the Dordogne. Those who choose Saint-Aignan as a holiday destination want to rent a holiday apartment.
Nature and Trails
The Boucle des Coteaux is an easy hike of around 1 hour and 30 minutes, with 72 metres of elevation gain. The 5.6 km circular route starts in Saint-Aignan and leads over the upper slopes of the Fronsadais, where windmills characterise the route. Another route is the Boucle de Fronsac: it passes through the villages of Fronsac and Saint-Aignan, through vineyards as well as holm oak and strawberry tree forests, and offers views of the Dordogne.
Culture and History
The Church of Saint-Aignan is a listed historic site and monument. Its nave was built in the 11th century. The semicircular apse was built in the 12th century and is decorated on the outside with blind arcades. The sanctuary has a conch vault and is separated from the nave by a large round arch. The fortified bell tower of the Church of Saint-Aignan was built west of the nave in 1687.
The Church of Saint-Aignan can only be visited by prior arrangement as part of a self-guided tour.
