Culture and history

Château de Portets has been listed as a historic monument by decree of 29 April 2013. The listing covers the entire château, including the outbuildings, the walled garden, the terrace and staircase, the Tour de Gascq, the access road from the port and the canals; excluded are the modern halls on plot 1248 and the swimming pool on plot 101.

Château de Mongenan is an 18th-century folly dating from the reign of Louis XV; together with its furnishings, collections and gardens, it is fully classified as a historic monument. A guided and narrated tour of Château de Mongenan includes the museum, the Masonic temple, three gardens listed as historic monuments and the vineyard.

The parish church of Saint-Vincent in Portets was built in 1861 according to plans by the architect Henri Duphot. The Tour du Roy controlled shipping traffic of the gabarres on the Garonne.

The Tour du Port du Roy, a former toll tower at the old Port du Roy, has round-arched openings topped with mascarons. The Salon du Jardin takes place every spring in the Parc du Chéret de Portets.

Nature and landscape

The Château de Portets estate has a terrace opening to the north towards the Palus and the Garonne. The Garonne tidal bore, or Mascaret, can be observed in Portets.

Port du Roy is a nautical stop on the Garonne with a pontoon quay where excursion boats can dock conveniently.
