Culture and History
The Abbey of Saint Pierre de l’Isle was founded in 1128 by the Archbishop of Bordeaux, Geoffroy de Loriole. It was later destroyed by the armies of the Prince of Wales, known as the “Black Prince”. Its remains include a wall pierced by a pointed-arch window, part of the guardroom and the stables.
The Eglise Saint-Romain d'Ordonnac was built at the end of the 19th century on the site of an earlier Romanesque building and was financed largely through donations from the villagers. It can be visited free of charge and exclusively by prior appointment as part of a self-guided visit.
The historic site of the Abbaye de l'Isle is also located in the immediate vicinity of Ordonnac.
