Culture
The present-day Église Saint-Maurice de Morizès was built between 1888 and 1892 according to plans by the Bordeaux architect Emile Hosteing. It was built in the Neo-Gothic style preferred by church architects in the circle of Cardinal Donnet.
The architectural heritage also includes the Maison David / Mayle, a bourgeois house with a rural character and a basement level containing ancillary rooms, as well as the Maison Thibaud. The latter appears to date from the mid-19th century; its central façade axis is accentuated by a slight projection and a gable.
The Foyer Rural of Morizès was among the very first rural centres built in the Gironde département. Under one roof, it combined an event hall that also served as a sports hall, showers and a library. At the same time, it is described as one of the oldest buildings of its kind in the département and as one of the most highly regarded.
At Tuilerie Bouquet, handcrafted terracotta articles are made to order for customers. Visitors are welcomed there by prior telephone appointment.
Smaller architectural and local features also shape the character of the area: The palm trees of Morizès are considered part of the regional cultural heritage. The Maison Beylard is regarded as an older type of house with classical decorative elements; its three-bay façade has central openings spanned by round arches. The Maison Izotte has an upper floor, a five-bay façade, a centrally positioned entrance and decorative details featuring disc ornaments.
