Monsegur: Holiday apartments and holiday homes

Monségur is a bastide founded by Eléonore of Provence in 1265 and has preserved the characteristic original layout of a bastide. Anyone choosing Monségur as a holiday destination may want to rent a holiday apartment.

Culture and history

The Church of Notre-Dame is a church of bastide architecture, with its main construction phase in the 13th century, and is listed as a historic monument. Its side chapels contain sculptures from the 13th and 14th centuries.

Nature and trails

The “Boucle de la bastide à Monségur” starts in Monségur and is an easy, 6.5-kilometre circular walking route lasting approximately 1 hour and 30 minutes. The route runs along the river and leads to the washhouses.

South of the old town, a small, rather steep valley features a pleasant and well-preserved landscape with pastures and vegetable plots. Paths from the Chemin de ronde connect the riverside path along the Drot with two nature centres equipped with picnic areas. The “Circuit Bastides et Abbayes” connects Bouliac with Monségur.

Markets and events

The market hall in Monségur hosts a weekly market on Friday mornings. Every Wednesday in summer, Monségur offers a theatrical guided tour of the bastide.

On the second Sunday in December, Monségur hosts a foie gras fair featuring gastronomic products and handicrafts. In February, the “Foire des Fines Gueules” takes place, an event centred around good food and hearty dishes. Monségur’s cultural programme also includes the jazz festival “Les 24 Heures du Swing”, which takes place at the beginning of July.
