Culture and History

The Église Saint-Vincent in Marcillac was mainly built during the 12th and 13th centuries. Its Romanesque west portal has four archivolts and decoration featuring griffins facing one another and interlaced ornaments. The portal was classified as a historic monument in 1908, the bell tower was protected in 1925, and the entire church was protected in 2004.

The cemetery cross in Marcillac dates from the late 15th century and has been protected as a historic monument since 1907. An old bread oven still has an opening that can be observed. The preserved mechanisms and surviving wooden structures of the Moulin de Reguignon now form a museum illustrating the history of the mill and the family. The now-disused Moulin de Vignolles still has a vertical water wheel with a diameter of 7 metres.

Nature

The Boucle de Marcillac starts in Marcillac and is an easy 10.5-kilometre hiking trail. It follows wide paths through a mixed forest. The route can also be cycled in about an hour along an easy trail.

Wine and Craftsmanship

The Coopérative des Vignerons de Tutiac offers a tour lasting approximately 1.5 hours, during which the individual steps of wine production are presented. The tour includes a tasting of four wines, including white, rosé and red wines.

The Distillerie vinicole du Blayais has been known since 1974 for Fine de Bordeaux, a brandy made from white wine. Sandy or clay-limestone soils make it possible to grow white and red wines under the Blaye Côtes de Bordeaux appellation. When turning towards St Aubin de Blaye, the entrance to the present-day Distillerie vinicole du Blayais is about 100 metres on the left; four large copper stills can be seen there through large glass windows.
