The Plan d’eau de Paloumey lies one kilometre west of the town centre and can be reached via the Route de Pauillac. It is also part of a walking loop. The Marais de Rigaud is a 360-hectare wetland. It comprises ditches and paths lined with hedges, wet woodland, reed beds and wet meadows. The Circuit des graves is one of two designated hiking trails in Ludon-Médoc.

The Domaine de Pachan is a wildlife and hunting reserve. Its ponds were created as nesting habitats for birds, and hundreds of bird species are observed there throughout the year. By appointment, the area can be explored on a guided tour led by a guide-educator, providing an opportunity to understand the unique wetland environment.

Wine and Sightseeing

The Ludon-Médoc area is home to numerous Crus Bourgeois, Grands Crus Classés and Crus Artisans. Château Paloumey is located at the beginning of the Médoc Wine Route on the D2 and offers group or private tours, wine tastings and themed workshops.

Château d’Agassac is a quadrangular residential building with towers and corner turrets that was remodelled in the 17th and 19th centuries. Guided tours are offered there, followed by tastings of four vintages as well as grape juice for children. The estate also offers a family-friendly treasure hunt with iPad support.

History and Architectural Heritage

The Church of Saint Martin is probably considered the oldest building in the village. Originally a Romanesque building from the 12th century, it was fortified in the 16th century. Only the square tower on a circular motte remains of Château Cantemerle; it probably dates from 1390.

Château Bacalan is a Bordeaux-style chartreuse built from dressed stone and has been listed as a historic monument since 1994. Château La Lagune is a chartreuse built in 1730, with a stone staircase decorated with wrought iron that leads to a wooded park.
