Le Haillan: Holiday apartments and houses
The source area of Le Haillan is home to the Bois du Déhès, a five-hectare Natura 2000 site. Watercourses, maritime pines and oaks characterise this natural setting. Using illustrated, accessible information panels and interactive activities such as listening to birdsong and searching for animal tracks, the educational trail introduces visitors to the local biodiversity.
Those who choose Le Haillan for their stay may wish to rent a holiday apartment there.
Nature
The Parc des Jalles covers 6,000 hectares and nine municipalities, including Le Haillan. Within its area, the protected Natura 2000 site covers five hectares; it contains watercourses, pines and oaks. Walking and unobtrusive observation of protected species are possible. Family activities are offered in the Parc des Jalles. There are also walking and cycling routes, as well as geocaching.
The Parc du Ruisseau is a four-hectare green space crossed by a four-kilometre-long stream. As water quality has improved, some small fish have returned; frogs and dragonflies also thrive there. A self-guided educational trail provides information about former watercress farms, the history of Le Haillan and the stream’s ecosystem.
Trails
The educational trail in the Bois du Déhès begins at the corner of Rue du Médoc and the cycle path. Le Haut-perché can only be reached on foot or by bicycle. From a possible parking area in the Sainte-Christine residential district beside the Bordeaux–Lacanau cycle path, a 500-metre footpath leads through the Bois du Déhès to the site.
The Boucle verte became France’s first GR Métropolitain in 2019. The signposted long-distance hiking trail is 160 kilometres long, passes through 17 municipalities and connects the metropolis’s main natural areas and urban parks.
