Le Barp: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes
Le Barp is located on the Via Turonensis, the route to Santiago de Compostela. In 2017, Philippe Fangeaux created the work “Couleurs” here: four blocks of colour arranged in a landscape.
Those wishing to rent a holiday apartment in Le Barp can include the town in their travel plans.
Culture and History
Le Barp has a pilgrims’ hostel with 10 places for pilgrims travelling the Camino de Santiago. The “Camin Roumieu” loop follows a former Roman road that connected Bordeaux and Dax.
“Le Chalet”, now the municipal library or media library, was built in 1845 by M. Deux-Brezes as a hunting lodge.
Forest and Trails
Le Barp has a significant forest heritage, which the municipality maintains and enhances.
“Au Barp, la traversée des temps” is a six-stage forest route on gravel paths, open to cyclists and mountain bikers.
In the Haureuils district, an easy 4.7 km loop takes 1 hour and 15 minutes to walk and can be used on foot or by mountain bike.
“Les Pistes de Robin” is a family treasure hunt for children aged 8 and over, accompanied by their parents. It uses a booklet with entertaining questions and a set route to discover Le Barp’s historical heritage and hidden treasures.
As an independent walking activity, “Les Pistes de Robin” is 2.5 km long, takes 1 hour and 30 minutes, and starts in Le Barp.
Crafts and Community Life
In the Haureuils district, a local pottery tradition has been preserved by the Dubourg businesses, also known as “Terres & céramiques de Gascogne”; the businesses have been located in the forest for more than 150 years.
“Terres & céramiques de Gascogne” produces ceramic paving stones and tiles, as well as the resin pot known as the “pot Hugues”.
The family bakery “Le Fournil d’Albert” was reopened by Patrick Bordessoules and his sister Corinne and preserves a traditional production method; its products include country bread, pastries, and a south-western French-style fougasse.
