Culture and history
The Abbaye de La Sauve-Majeure was founded in 1079 by Gérard de Corbie. It is a masterpiece of 12th-century Romanesque art and a former Benedictine abbey.
In France, the Église Saint-Pierre is part of the UNESCO World Heritage Site comprising the Routes of Santiago de Compostela. The Gothic church is notable for its painted furnishings.
The bell tower of the Abbaye de La Sauve-Majeure offers views over the village and the surrounding countryside.

Routes through the countryside
The loop from La Sauve to the abbey is an easy 7.8 km route that can be completed on foot or by bicycle. It passes through fields, horse-grazed meadows, vineyards, and deciduous forests.
Cycle loop route no. 18 La Sauve Majeure is an easy 15 km cycling route. It starts at the Place Saint-Jean car park next to the Abbaye de La Sauve-Majeure.
Wine and local culture
The Maison des Vins de l’Entre-deux-Mers is a tasting cellar and an association of producers. It is located at the foot of the Abbaye de La Sauve-Majeure.
The Maison des Vins de l’Entre-deux-Mers also features a permanent exhibition entitled “Moines et vins au moyen-âge”.
