Near Grayan is Plage du Gurp, a long sandy beach with an extensive dune area. The beach features numerous bunkers from the Second World War, which contribute to its historic character.

There are also three other beaches in the vicinity of Grayan: Plage Soulac, Plage Centrale d'Euronat and Plage Vensac.

Nature and Trails

A vehicle-free path leads from the edge of the forest towards Étang de la Barreyre. The Étangs de la Barreyre comprise four freshwater ponds where visitors can discover fishing. The guiding principle there is “No Kill”: caught fish are returned to the water.

History and Culture

The Saint-Jean-Baptiste de l’Hôpital Chapel has foundations dating back to the 12th century. It is located in the village of L’Hôpital on the historic variant of the Way of St James between Soulac-sur-Mer and Vendays-Montalivet. On the historic Hospital variant of the Way of St James, you leave the Vélodyssée at the “Historic Hospital Trail” sign and follow the Amélie-Talais cycle path, marked with pilgrims’ signs, to the village of Grayan and onwards to L’Hôpital.

The Les Amis de la Chapelle Saint Jean Baptiste de l’Hôpital association is committed to regularly opening the chapel for visits and organising cultural events there, such as conferences, concerts and exhibitions.

Near Grayan is the Basilique Notre-Dame-de-la-fin-des-Terres, a church. In the wider regional area around Grayan are Novioregum, an ancient site, Fort de Royan, a fort, and Abbaye de l'Isle, a historic site.
