In Gans, the fortified feudal-era castle was destroyed and replaced in the 18th century by the Château des Evêques. It was surrounded by a game reserve, an orangery, a fountain and covered walkways. The Église Saint-Pierre de Gans was the chapel of the former fortified castle and was located within the castle grounds. It was desecrated in 1789 and converted into a saltpetre works. Its bell tower is elongated, tapers to a sharp point and is crowned by a stone Maltese cross. The church can only be visited by appointment as part of a self-guided tour.
