Culture

The Phare du Cap Ferret was rebuilt in 1947 and, together with its 7-hectare park, is classified as a historic monument. It is 53 metres high, reached via 258 steps, and offers 360-degree panoramic views over the peninsula and the Bassin. The lighthouse also features a permanent exhibition on the development of maritime cartography since the 17th century, the history of the lighthouse, and 3D and interactive displays.

The Notre-Dame-des-Flots Chapel was consecrated on 15 August 1893. Following work that began with the laying of the foundation stone in 1956 and was completed in 1966, it was transformed into a modern church made of concrete and coloured glass.

The municipality of Lège-Cap-Ferret comprises nine oyster-farming villages stretching from Claouey to Cap Ferret. These villages are located on the public maritime domain and are protected because of their heritage value. A memorial cross at the tip of Cap Ferret was approved in spring 1868; it was probably erected between 1869 and 1872 and is still visible on the forecourt of Notre-Dame-des-Flots Church.
