Anyone wishing to rent a holiday apartment to visit Baurech’s historic buildings will plan their trip around this village.
History
Bellevue is said to date from the 15th century and to have been extended in the 17th century; its openings and interior fittings are said to date from the mid-18th century. The Castel de Laborde, also known as Castel de Bordes, is said to have been built in 1610.
Château de Lacaussade features remains from the 13th, 14th and 17th centuries. Its construction includes a residential building flanked by round and square towers, as well as a square keep with three storeys. Nénine is situated on a south-facing slope above the right bank of the Garonne in Baurech; Roman remains have been found on the site.
The listed chapel of Château de Lyde retains the appearance of a feudal chapel; above the altar is a painting by Larreydi dating from 1709. The 16th-century church in Baurech has been protected as a historic monument since 2003 and is one of the rare Gothic buildings in Aquitaine with a central nave and two aisles.
Significant restoration work has been carried out on the stained-glass windows, reredos, side altar, entrance portal and buttresses of the church in Baurech. The church contains a damaged 14th-century Christ, a Madonna and Child in the troubadour style, and a specially designed 19th-century harmonium with imitation organ pipes.
