Baron: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

Culture and History
Historically, the crypt was associated with a pilgrimage intended to cure fear in children, known as “La Peur de Baron”. The historic pilgrimage to Saint Christophe took place on 25 July, the feast day of Saint Christopher, and ended in 1726 due to a royal decree.
Château de Crain has a preserved rear section dating from the 14th century; its front façade was built in the medieval style in the 19th century. Château Bellefontaine comprises buildings constructed or remodelled from the 16th to the 19th century, grouped around a large courtyard near the Souloire stream. Château Paimpoix-Laffite was built in the 16th century and remodelled around a central courtyard through to the 19th century.
Landscape and Wine
The Château de Crain estate covers almost 100 hectares, including 45 hectares of vineyards, 20 hectares of arable land, 20 hectares of woodland, and 15 hectares of meadows, fallow land, parks and gardens.
Château de Crain offers daily estate tours with tastings in the historic cellars; an appointment is required before every visit.
Getting Around
The 16-kilometre, easy Circuit des Seigneurs cycle route passes through the village of Baron and brings the region’s architectural heritage to life. On the Circuit des Seigneurs, Château Paimpoix-Laffite can be viewed from the roadside; the estate is privately owned and cannot be visited.
The Boucle vélo n°17 Baron begins in the car park next to the Église Saint-Christophe de Baron and leads through the region’s rural surroundings and vineyards.
