Arsac: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

Since the 1990s, the Château d’Arsac has welcomed prominent artists to its park, thereby transforming the estate into an open-air museum. The park is now home to more than 20 contemporary works of art. An artistic walk leads through the vineyards, with monumental sculptures appearing in the landscape. The Château d’Arsac also offers the oeno-musical tour “Si Arsac m’était chanté”. The Château d’Arsac is a Cru Bourgeois Exceptionnel whose architecture combines historic splendour with modern design.

Culture

The Église Saint-Germain was completely remodelled in the 19th century by the architect Gustave Alaux. A Romanesque portal with four archivolts from the original construction has been preserved on the south façade. The protected furnishings include the altar, retable and tabernacle of the south chapel. The walls feature funerary paintings dating from the 14th and 15th centuries, bearing the coats of arms of a lord’s family. The Église Saint-Germain d’Arsac is protected as a historic monument; the south portal is excluded.

Wine

Winegrowing in Arsac belongs to the Margaux and Haut-Médoc appellations. The Château du Tertre was classified as a Grand Cru Classé Margaux in 1855 and has a 52-hectare winegrowing estate whose area has changed little since then. The Château du Tertre offers the tours “Dans les pas du Tertre” and “La privative”, each including a tasting of two and three wines respectively.

The Château Mongravey offers tours and tastings by appointment from Monday to Friday between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. It is classified as a Cru Bourgeois Exceptionnel in the AOC Margaux. The Château des Graviers has a 13-hectare vineyard on Pyrenean gravel ridges separated from one another by a natural network of small streams. The estate switched to organic winegrowing in 2012 and receives visitors by appointment only.

Vignobles Bernaleau welcomes visitors year-round for tours in French and English; appointments are arranged from Monday to Friday by email or telephone. By appointment, it also offers a simple tasting of its own wines, as well as a comparative tasting of the Haut-Médoc and Margaux appellations from the same vintage.

Trails

The FFRandonnée Gironde’s ARSAC BR® 38 route begins in front of the sports hall of Collège Panchon in Arsac. It is a red route designated as a “Balade à Roulettes®” and bears the stated length indication “2 km 38”. The hiking programme in Arsac includes three group outings per week. Along the Voie de Tours of the Way of St James, the route passes through the municipalities of Margaux and Arsac, where hikers are invited to discover châteaux and vineyards.

Local Life

Arsac’s weekly market takes place in the town centre on Place Camille Godard and is part of a comprehensive programme to revitalise the village.
