Culture and History

The Château de Sainte-Barbe is an 18th-century manor house dating from 1760 to 1770. It represents the buildings erected by Bordeaux dignitaries on the banks of the Garonne and has been protected as a historical monument since 1996.

The history of the religious buildings also goes back a long way: the remains of an old, possibly Romanesque chapel called Notre-Dame d’Ambès were discovered during the construction of the present-day church. The chapel was probably replaced around 1766 by another building with a bell gable, triangular pediment and cross.

The Espace des 2 Rives on Rue Montesquieu in Ambès is an event venue hosting various cultural events throughout the year. These include performances, exhibitions, dinner shows and other cultural gatherings.

Every year, Ambès also hosts Les Odyssées, a free, interdisciplinary open-air family festival celebrating street art and contemporary music.

The Caneton d’Ambès municipal swimming pool has a 25-metre-long and 10-metre-wide pool with four lanes.

Parc de Cantefrêne covers 65 hectares and was created by successfully converting a former gravel pit; three ponds characterize the park. It also has a miniature golf course and a cycle path.

The “Balade à roulettes: Le parc de Cantefrêne” route is a 4-kilometre, very easy walking route starting in Ambès. Along the route, visitors can choose between circular paths around one, two or three lakes.
