Aillas: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

Culture and History

The Église Notre-Dame d’Aillas is a Romanesque church built in the 12th century. Under the French system of historic monuments, it is partly classified, partly registered, and fully protected. A small bas-relief on its façade depicts two pilgrims in bliauds with walking staffs on their way to Compostela.

Only ruins of the Château d’Aillas remain; they were classified as historic monuments in 1886. They are located at the beginning of the plateau north of and above the village, along the D9 towards La Réole, at a place called La Ville. After its reconstruction, the Château d’Aillas became the property of the d’Albret family and one of their residences.
