Culture and History
The parish of St. George in Stravča dates back to 1620; however, some documents date its foundation to the years 1636 to 1639. The parish church of St. George the Martyr was built in the 16th century and became the parish church after its restoration in 1620.
Restoration work on St. George's Church began in 2012 and involved local residents in work activities. The former parish church in Stravča was demolished in 1860 and replaced by a new building in 1872.
St. Spas in Stravča is a 17th-century funeral chapel. After it burned down in 1806, it was remodelled in 1880 and restored in 2004.
In Jagnjilo, a traditional agricultural complex from Konavle has been preserved. It includes three threshing floors, a barn, an associated dry-stone wall and a monumental Konavle janik.
Nature and Landscape
Sniježnica consists predominantly of Jurassic limestone and features developed karst terrain. The mountain provides a habitat for the endemic plant Mandragora.
Mount Sniježnica is located in Konavle. Its summit, Sveti Ilija, reaches 1,234 metres and is situated at the tripoint of Croatia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, and Montenegro.
Within the Natura 2000 site HR2000946 Sniježnica and Konavosko polje, the karst springs of Stravča have been identified as suitable habitat for popovska gaovica (Delminichthys ghetaldii). A survey conducted from May to September 2013 recorded the strictly protected and endangered fish in a pond or spring in Stravča.
In the nearby area, the Konavoske stijene educational trail begins in Popovići. It runs for around 4 kilometres through overgrown natural landscapes above the cliffs and offers views towards the open sea.
Geographical Classification
The area of Konavoska brda was formerly connected by a railway line via Vojski Do; railway operations ceased on 28 June 1968.
The parish area of Stravča is described as an area whose villages are connected to Cavtat by bus every day.
