Poljice: Holiday apartments and holiday homes

A marked trail leads through Poljice to the summit of St. Ilija on Čista gora. The longer ascent from Bačev do to the 562 m-high summit is 5.5 km long and is considered a mountaineering route.

Nature

From Ilijin vrh, views extend from the island of Mljet to the Bay of Kotor. The HR4000016 Konavoske stijene ecological network area covers 377.1 hectares in the Komaji–Poljice area.

History

Archaeological finds provisionally date the hillfort on Ilijin vrh to the Early and Middle Bronze Age, around 2150–1300 BC. A prehistoric hillfort settlement is also recorded on Ilijin vrh above Poljice.

Culture

The medieval summit church and cemetery on Ilijin vrh were enclosed by a dry-stone wall. The summit church of St. Elijah dates from the 14th century, was renovated in 1995, and stands near around a dozen tombstones, including several stećak tombstones. Four stone wayside crosses stand near the summit church; one of them is integrated into the church façade.

St. Anne's Church in Poljice is a funerary church within a medieval necropolis. The Glavić residential and agricultural complex in Poljice is protected cultural heritage under the designation Z-959.

Coast and region

Uvala Čelinska in Poljice is designated as a natural beach. Rural tourism in Konavle preserves villages with traditional stone architecture associated with the Republic of Dubrovnik. It offers traditional dishes with homemade liqueurs, olive oil and local wines.

At the 2008 event Mirisi Božića u Konavlima, the Glavić family in Poljice was among the hosts. The Poljice programme of this event was also associated with the winemaker and olive oil producer Božo Metković from Molunat. The Glavić house is associated with rural tourism in Konavle.
