Prutz between the Inn Cycle Path and Kaunertal

Prutz combines the landscape of the Kaunertal with a preserved historic centre, regional history and a wide range of ideas for active and relaxing holiday days. The village is located at the entrance to the Kaunertal in a fertile valley basin surrounded by the Kaunergrat, the Glockturmkamm and the Samnaun Group. An official interactive village map also provides spatial orientation for exploring the area independently.

Landscape and routes around Prutz

Those who would like to discover the surroundings by bicycle can include the Inn Cycle Path in Tyrol's Upper Inn Valley in their plans. The route passes Prutz along the valley floor. Section R8 of the Via Claudia Augusta also runs along the Inn to Prutz, giving the village an interesting connection between landscape and historic route.

In summer, Prutz is a popular starting point for hikes and mountain-bike tours in the Kaunertal and in the tripoint of Austria, Switzerland and Italy. For a more leisurely outing, the “Prutz – Leitenwald – Fischer Ranch – Prutz” walking route is ideal. It starts in Prutz, follows the Leitenwaldweg and reaches the “Fischer Ranch” between the main road and the Faggenbach stream. This allows you to choose between a more sporting tour and a walk with a clearly described route, without limiting your holiday day to just one activity.

Villagescape, history and living traditions

In the centre of Prutz, the villagescape with its narrow lanes has been preserved. It is considered characteristic of a typical settlement in western Tyrol and gives a stroll a special historic atmosphere. The history of the parish church of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary dates back to the 11th century. At the same time, a devastating event is also part of the village's history: at the beginning of the 20th century, a fire destroyed a large part of Prutz.

An even older tradition leads to the Sauerbrunn spring in Prutz. It has been known since 1212; at that time, the shepherd Nikolaus Schederle is said to have discovered it. Traditions are also highly valued in Prutz. One of the beautifully painted farmhouses can be seen there as well. If you choose your trip not only according to the landscape and activities, but also according to regional character, these details offer good starting points for your own discoveries.

Swimming, fishing and regional specialities

Prutz outdoor pool features a generous water area in a round-pool design, a 42-metre water slide, a counter-current system, a children's pool, a sunbathing lawn and a playground. For families, this can be a practical element of a holiday day that combines activity and relaxation.

Fishing in the Inn is also possible near Prutz. The relevant section extends from the mouth of the Fendler Bach between Ried and Prutz to a point shortly before the Pontlatz Bridge. Proof of having completed fishing instruction is required. Maass-Brand provides a culinary highlight: every Tuesday, you can enjoy and discover fine fruit brandies there. The Prutz Apple Festival takes place on the last Sunday in September, adding a fixed date in the annual calendar to the region's culinary impressions.
